Privacy Policy
Last updated: 19 June 2026 · Effective on publication
This Privacy Policy explains how MAPPiO Global Pty Ltd ("MAPPiO", "we", "us", "our") collects, uses, discloses and protects personal information when you use mappio.io and our related services. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. Information we collect
When you use our "Upload a scope" enquiry form or otherwise contact us, we may collect:
- Identity and contact details — your name, company, email address and phone number;
- Project information — the site address, the boundary/area you draw on the map, and any documents or files you upload;
- Enquiry content — the service requested and any message you provide;
- Technical data — limited information your browser sends automatically (such as approximate location and device/browser type) and any data collected by the mapping and analytics tools described below.
You can browse the site without providing personal information; it is only collected if you choose to submit an enquiry.
2. How we use your information
We use personal information to:
- respond to your enquiry, prepare a scope and provide our services;
- communicate with you about your project and our response;
- maintain records, and meet our legal and professional obligations;
- improve our website and services.
If you tick the consent box when submitting an enquiry, you agree that we may contact you about your project and send you communications about MAPPiO's services. You can opt out of non-essential communications at any time (for example, by replying "unsubscribe"), consistent with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
3. How your enquiry is transmitted
When you submit the enquiry form, your details, drawn site boundary and any attached documents are transmitted over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection via a third-party form-delivery service and delivered to our team at hello@mappio.io. The service acts solely as a relay — it does not retain a copy of your submission after delivery, and we do not store your information on any web server of our own. Once received, your enquiry is held in our email system and handled in accordance with this policy. If your files are too large to attach, we will arrange a suitable secure transfer method with you directly.
4. Third-party services
Our site uses the following third-party services, which may receive limited data (such as your IP address or map interactions) when you load or use the relevant feature:
- Mapping & imagery — OpenStreetMap, CARTO and Esri (and their imagery suppliers Maxar, Earthstar Geographics) supply the map tiles;
- Form delivery — a third-party form-delivery service relays enquiry submissions to our email over an encrypted connection and does not retain them after delivery;
- Address search — the OpenStreetMap Nominatim geocoding service;
- Fonts — Google Fonts (the Inter typeface);
Each operates under its own privacy terms. We do not control and are not responsible for their practices.
5. Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may disclose it to our team and the service providers above, to professional advisers, or where required or authorised by law. Some of these providers may store or process data overseas; where they do, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is handled consistently with the APPs.
6. Storage, security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, including transmission over secure (HTTPS) connections and access controls. We retain personal information only for as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law (generally up to 7 years for business and tax records), after which it is securely deleted or de-identified.
7. Access, correction and complaints
You may request access to, or correction of, the personal information we hold about you, or make a privacy complaint, by contacting us using the details below. We will respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
8. Cookies
The site uses only the storage strictly necessary for it to function (for example, remembering map state). [Update this section if you later add analytics or marketing cookies, which may require a cookie banner.]
9. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available on this page, with the "last updated" date shown above.
